Web based career exploration sites

CareerZone

CareerZone is an innovative online career exploration and planning system designed especially for today's high-tech youth in New York State. CareerZone was designed by the state Department of Labor to present current and relevant occupational and labor market information, making career exploration and planning fun and easy. CareerZone is provided at no cost to users and can be accessed at over 700 school districts across New York State. In addition, CareerZone is used in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and in over 150 countries and territories across the globe.

CareerZone leverages the power of the web to provide information on over 900 occupations from the O*NET Database. Integrated college and training resources help youth begin their life/work journey. Over 400 career videos provide a visual of the workplace and bring careers to life. Up-to-date job postings offer a glimpse into the local labor market and the ability to apply for positions. The newly expanded resume builder helps youth prepare one of the most important tools needed for a successful job search. CareerZone also provides population-specific lists of resources for students, parents, educators, counselors, and jobseekers.

CareerZone offers interactive middle and high school career portfolios aligned with the New York State Education Department Career Plan initiative. CareerZone portfolios are customizable by grade level, and allow users in grades 6-12 to continue their career exploration journey by using Interest, Work Values, and Skill Assessment tools to explore potential careers.

CareerZone is the youth entrance to NYS Department of Labor integrated lifespan career development system. In 2008 the website captured over 800,000 unique visitors. To date over one million Portfolio accounts have been created within the combined CareerZone and JobZone System.
