Best Uses :
Career Exploration/Assessment

Most job seekers focus on job title and employer but they have no system for deciding which employers they should be targeting. Career GPS is a free online industry "card sort" that allows anyone to explore the industries that interest them the most. Once the industries are selected, the job seeker can easily target employers in those fields using the Employer Locator, Reference USA,or any other NAICS-based tool.

The card sort was programmed in Flash and users must have a Flash player installed to use the tool. It was developed by the East Carolina University Career Center who holds the copyright and is currently used by several other schools as well.

  1. THE MISSING TOOL!

Career GPS provides a critcal assessment tool for students and job seekers. Users are shown a series of "cards" listing industries according to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). Users slect from those cards the ten industries (and NAICSs Codes) that interest them the most. Then Employer locator tools can be used to identify the employers that job seekers should be targeting.

Career GPS is free, mouse driven and easy to use, and schools can purchase an inexpensive site license if they want the tool customized for use by their students.

Too time-consuming. Links don't work effectively. Too many steps.
