The National Career Readiness Certificate verifies to employers anywhere in the United States that an individual has essential core employability skills in Reading, Math, and Locating Information. ACT has researched over 16,000 occupations, and these three skills are highly important to the majority of jobs in the workplace. The Certificate is an easily understood and nationally valued credential that certifies the attainment of these workplace skills.
When employers ask for the National Career Readiness Certificate for jobs in their workplace, they tap into the most qualified labor pool available. Applicants with a National Career Readiness Certificate provide solid insight into their foundational skills in the core areas of Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information.
It is used for
- Screening—Employers interview only applicants who have the skills required for the job.
- Hiring and promotion—A National Career Readiness Certificate can be used as a "plus" factor to help make selection and promotion decisions.
- Targeting employee training and development—Employers can target their training budgets for job-specific skills rather than basic skills.

This tool is excellent. It certifies that a person tests at a specific level in reading, math, and locating information. With the certificate, the employer can read the back and determine exactly what an individual can do in terms of these basic skills.
This is a valuable resource that allows job seekers to provide evidence of their skill level in key areas
The NCRC when combined with educating employers on use of the ACT job profiles for jobs within their businesses is one of the most powerful tools we have to match job seekers shills with job requirements. It builds not only a workforce that better matches the job skill requirements but also helps build credibility of state employment dept., one stops and thier referrals.
What sets the NCRC apart is that it is based on the WorkKeys system which was widely recognized and utilized by employers for screening, hiring and promotion.
Great way for customers to market themselves to employers!
The Career Readiness Certificate is available in four different skill levels: platinum, gold, silver, and bronze. A potential worker can earn a certificate in silver, for example, and then re-test later and move up to gold or platinum. Each achievement adds to the worker's confidence which leads to future success.
This is a great tool for employers. Information about the candidate and their abilities is shared via a successful test score.
The CRC has been an excellent skill measurement tool for our career technical students.
In Michigan, we have mandated by law within our graduation requirements that all students in the 11 th grade take the three WorkKeys tests that comprise the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). Our Michigan Dept of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth had also issued a policy to all of our MI Works workforce development agencies for our No Worker Left Behind program to have our unemployed workers take the same three WorkKeys tests and to attainn the NCRC. In this way our state has bridged the "language gap" around workforce skill building targets between employers, workforce agencies, and education. For the first time we have a common language and measure of these business requested skills. Our goal in Michigan is to " skill up" our workers to attract business to come to or stay in Michigan with a skilled workforce. Through the NCRC credential demonstrate we are committed to build the skills in all aspects of our delivery systems of our citizens for the workplace of the future.
