  5. The front page of the site has a nice look. But as I worked through 4 pages of the registration process, then came to a screen asking for a promo code or $35 (I pay about $3 a can for coffee, so that's a lot of coffee!)....I was done. Users demand speed. If I were a job-seeker stumbling onto the site, I'd be irritated to go through that registration process then be confronted with a hefty fee. Why pay? Too many AWESOME tools out there that are funded and cost the job-seeker nothing.

In several states Kuder Journey is a free resource provided by the state to job seekers. For those not in one of those states, it is a very reasonable one-time fee (less than $35) for lifelong access. The registration process provides tailored usage for each individual and identifies needs/barriers which an individual may need help with overcoming. I don't know of any other websites that offer this. Thus, a personalized account for LIFETIME access with a great deal of resources all in one location rather than 3 or 4 different websites.

This tool is extremely difficult for use with middle school students. It is lengthy. I would not recommend it.

In South Carolina, our public libraries have Kuder Journey available at no charge for the large influx of adults using library computers for job searches. The assessment tools help job seekers match their knowledge and interests to careers in demand, connect them to training resources in the state and prepare resumes. The state is averaging 250 new users per week. Journey has proven a great on-line tool to help our citizens in career transition.

WE use this in our school. It is free for us as it is part of our state's career and technical education resources. We do use it for middle schoolers. It IS lengthy, but the information and reports are very good. the accompanying class lessons and activities are excellent. I DO recommend it, from personal experience! One other really good thing is that, once you are registered, you can use this site for a lifetime; it's accessible from anywhere, and I think that's a benefit, too.

Kuder Navigator delivers simple, age-appropriate content customized by developmental level, middle school versus high school.

Kuder Journey is tailored to all types of adults in career transition, and supports ongoing awareness of job opportunities; planning for educational options; and managing career preparations. This is the tool recommended for this challenge.

The Kuder Suite is available free of charge in South Carolina. It is one of many options since a competent career counselor will never find that one assessment meets the needs of all people. However, having experience at the middle school, high school, and college levels, I can personally attest to the immeasurable value that the assessments and other components offer. There are 3 assessments (interest, skills, and values), each shorter than the other. However, the length of the interest survey is directly related to its validity and reliability. If you're looking for a short, casual introduction to career assessments you may want an informal assessment, rather than a formal assessment such as Kuder. Administrators (counselor/teacher/etc) will love the ability to: collect individual and aggregate data; reset lost passwords; email students within the system; view student assessment results; view state, local, and national labor market information, etc is a great benefit. I look forward to data regarding the newly added adult section (Journey) and it's role in moving adults through the career development, workforce development and economic development cycle.

The Kuder Journey program is a viable tool for anyone starting college, looking for another job and to validate how your personal interests can match occupations and educational decisions for your future. You can measure your skill levels and define work values that appeal to your individual situation. The program also allows you to develop an on line portfolio to provide a professional resume, job search interview questions & tools and to communicate with colleges and prospective employers about your future goals. This is a positive product for the current economic times.

  14. Journey is a new system for Arkansas provided free of charge to college through adult learners and job seekers. Students completing high school will transition from the Navigator system designed for grades 6-12 to the Journey system connecting secondary planning tools with postsecondary education and training and workforce opportunities. The entire system is presently being designed and built specifically for Arkansas to meet the needs of educators as well as students and job seekers. Although Kuder has been used for self-awareness, exploration and research it will be an integral part of every student's career development from self-assessments to resumes shared through the e-portfolio. From student planning to school program development to college and business connection to state funding Kuder Navigator and Journey will be the state career planning, preparation and development tools.

We use Kuder for our students in middle school in order to help them make connections between their classes and their careers. We also use it to help our 8th graders choose focus areas for credits in high school and encourage them to use Kuder throughout high school, tech school or college, and beyond. It is a fabulous instrument.

  18. Our teachers have enjoyed using Kuder and doing the assessments with their students. I wish additional assessments could be created since the students who start in the 9th grade are still doing the same assessments in the 12th grade. It would be nice if assessments could be created for grade levels.

The KUDER system is also free in the State of Missouri - imagine that!! It is most useful for 10th grade through adult. It is not as useful for 7th-9th grades, but I understand the company is working on something new for the 'middle' school level. They have just this fall put out a new program for elementary called KUDER Galaxy - a GREAT program for that level. The student organization SkillsUSA at our career-tech school purchased it for all the elementary schools in our district because we thought it was so useful for that level.

I have use the KUDER system with my middle school students in career ed this year and they have enjoyed the projects and activities that help them learn about all the career choices they have to begin making. I think it gives them a good background about all the career clusters and also helps them to see what it takes to be successful in those career fields.

All 8th graders at our middle school are required to take a class called Career Planning. The Kuder self assessments are one of the first activities we complete. There is no better way for students to begin evaluating their future in the world of work.

  29. We use Kuder with our 8th grade career students. They take the interests and skills assessments which are then shared with their parents. I think it is a useful tool to help students identify their areas of interest and how those tie into the career clusters, as well as giving them an idea of how much they need to do to develop skills in clusters of high interest.
