Jobsnd.com is the North Dakota web site that has become the true one stop career center for jobs. With the addition of the spidering tool we have increased our job order penetration rate within North Dakota by 30%. Job spidering is the tool which extracts job listings from other sites and places the extracted information into the jobsnd.com site in the same format as all internal job listings. Where Job Service North Dakota (JSND) was able to provide employment related services to roughly 60% of the North Dakota employers, we now can provide evidence that 90% of our employers are having their job listings appearing on the jobsnd.com site.
Several employers have contacted one stop career center staff to compliment JSND’s use of the spidering technology. Their comments demonstrate two separate thought processes. First is that they are saving staff time because staff can enter openings on their company web site and the spidering tool automatically brings those listings to the jsnd.com website. One in particular said, “Staff members no longer have to duplicate their effort of entering listings on their company web site and on the jobsnd.com website.” Secondly, employers are saving money. A call JSND received from an employer who never used our services prior to this time, stated that “He no longer needs to pay to advertise on other sites because he is getting such good results from jobsnd.com!”
Job seeker customers looking for North Dakota positions indicate they navigate to jobsnd.com first because job orders range from entry level positions to doctorate positions and all types in between.
Our employers are finding that they are receiving a stronger pool of applicants for jobs that they list regardless of whether the listings requires entry level skills or expert skill levels. Some employers are choosing to search for job seekers without listing a job order, and prefer that method of recruiting.
These capabilities are primarily due to our labor exchange tool created by Geographic Solutions Inc (GSI). JSND uses GSI’s labor exchange tools as well as the case management and training programs tools. As a result of the use of the labor exchange tools, we are finding that our unduplicated Job orders have increased by about 30% and our job seeker resume count has increased at a similar pace—but the greatest increase is the traffic to our site by individuals looking at jobs—that increase is 40% in a single year.
The primary tools within the GSI system that have had significant roles in these types of increases are:
• The simplicity and uniformity of the process for entering job orders and resumes.
• The search mechanisms for searching for job orders by job seekers and for employers searching for resumes, both of which allow from very basic searches to very complex searches. (Basic searches might be as simple as requesting all jobs available in a specific Zip Code, whereas a complex search might have a geographic preference, plus an occupation preference, plus specific skills, plus a required wage, etc.)
• The ability to save and rerun searches that are targets for the customer—(Virtual Recruiters).
o The customer has the ability to have the system run these searches on a regular basis, choices include—(Daily, Weekly, etc.)
• The ability of the system to contact the customer in any of three ways or combination of ways that they choose.
o System message center
o Email
o Cell phone text messages
There is also the very significant capability within the system to enable customers to navigate to the Labor Market Information (LMI) data for comparison purposes whether you are a job seeker trying to see if the wage for that job is appropriate, or if you are an employer trying to compare your wages to the wages of other businesses in your area. The system is totally integrated, and as you can tell is working quite well for Job Service North Dakota and its customers. In addition to the tools to run a successful labor exchange system, it is also able to create all the proper quarterly reports for labor exchange functions and Workforce Investment Act .
Job Service North Dakota could not have afforded to build this type of integrated system on our own. The Geographic Solutions Inc. labor exchange system has all the tools needed to run a successful labor exchange system. This system is embraced by JSND one stop career center staff as well as our customers.
